BETTING ANALYSIS For New Zealand
New Zealand’s opening match at the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup saw them make a huge statement against England, winning by nine wickets after chasing down 283 runs in just 36.2 overs. Only three players, including opener Devon Conway, got to bat for the Black Caps, who struck a superb unbeaten 152. Conway’s aggression and ability to find the boundary make him an extremely dangerous batter worthy of investment in multiple markets. There is good value to be had in backing the 32-year-old to score over 0.5 ‘Total Match Sixes’, not to mention scoring over 4.5 ‘Total Match Fours.’ Also, backing Conway to score a fifty looks like a wise move, although those looking for a higher return should consider supporting him to record consecutive ICC Cricket World Cup hundreds. With the ball, Trent Boult took just one wicket last time out against England, but a player of his quality is only likely to improve as the tournament goes on. Boult boasts 11 wickets to his name across his last five official ODI appearances in which a result was possible, and his skills may wind up too strong for the Netherlands top order, so back Boult to take over 1.5 match wickets here and also to finish as New Zealand’s top bowler.
BETTING ANALYSIS For the Netherlands
The Netherlands put up a spirited effort against Pakistan and were very much in the game for a significant period of time. However, they ultimately fell to an 81-run defeat after being bowled out for 205, chasing 287 to win. In our betting analysis of that encounter, we highlighted how exciting a player Bas de Leede was and how important the all-rounder would be to this Netherlands team. With four wickets and 67 runs against Pakistan, the 23-year-old finished the contest as his side’s top run-scorer and wicket-taker. He is the lynchpin of this Netherlands unit, and any substantial investment in them from bettors should once again be made through him. Back De Leede to score 30+ match runs against New Zealand via the ‘Batter Milestones’ market and hit over 1.5 match fours. There is also excellent value in backing De Leede to score over 0.5 match sixes when considering that he cleared the ropes twice vs Pakistan. It’s also worth highlighting the skills and experience of Colin Ackermann, who took two wickets on Friday, including the key scalp of Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Returning to the same venue for this match, Ackermann’s spin-bowling should pose a real challenge to New Zealand’s batters, and backing him to finish as Netherlands’ top bowler here is worth serious consideration.
CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION
Any outcome other than victory here for New Zealand would be a significant surprise, but backing the Black Caps to win offers little value for bettors. After his first-ball dismissal against England, opener Will Young is expected to bounce back strongly here, and with the destructive Conway alongside him at the top of the order, it isn’t likely to take New Zealand long to start racking up the runs. Meanwhile, The Netherlands’ batters may have to go at a slower pace early on in their innings to navigate the challenge of Trent Boult and Matt Henry before speeding up later. With this in mind, back New Zealand to end the first 15 overs of their innings with a higher score than the Netherlands managed in their opening 15 overs.
